Kobie is an associate in the firm’s anti-fraud and extra contractual litigation, insurance coverage, construction, and products liability practice groups. His practice includes anti-fraud investigations and property litigation stemming from losses caused by fire, water, or natural disaster events.
Prior to joining Meagher + Geer, Kobie served as an Unemployment Law Judge with the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development where he presided over unemployment insurance appeals for employee discharge matters. He also was a judicial law clerk to the Honorable Kendra D. Briggs for the Superior Court of the District of Columbia where the docket exclusively involved criminal misdemeanors, felonies, and involuntary civil commitment hearings.
Kobie earned his J.D. from the University of Baltimore School of Law where he served as associate editor for The University of Baltimore Law Forum and chair of its Bluebook Mentoring Committee. During law school Kobie was also active in the Black Law Students Association, serving as its director of community service. In addition, Kobie served as a Rule 19-220 student attorney with the school’s Mental Health Law Clinic, representing clients in involuntary civil commitment hearings.
Kobie spent most of his time in law school with the NAACP Office of the General Counsel. He initially joined as a 2020 Kellogg’s law fellow then later joined the Office in a more full-time capacity. As a full-time law fellow, he provided research and writing for high-profile litigation matters, managed a network of law students and legal advocates, and was a project consultant for an eviction moratorium task force between the NAACP and South Carolina Legal Aid.
Prior to law school, Kobie obtained his B.A. degree in Criminology and Criminal Justice from the University of Maryland College Park and worked as an office manager for a construction company local to Columbia, Maryland.
Outside the office, Kobie enjoys cooking, freshwater bottom fishing, car shows, and amateur racing. He also makes every attempt to keep his Spanish language professional proficiency sharp by listening to music, engaging in casual conversation, and binging whatever is the latest Spanish heist crime drama on Netflix.
