
Joe primarily focuses his practice on complex commercial litigation, anti-fraud and extra contractual litigation, insurance disputes, and personal injury matters including mass tort and toxic tort claims involving asbestos, talc and PFAS.
Joe joined Meagher + Geer in 2025, after serving as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the District of Minnesota. Joe engaged in high-stakes litigation involving the office’s most newsworthy cases. He co-led the RICO investigation and prosecution of the Bloods gang. He also worked on a prosecution for the murder of a police officer, a Cartel-linked narcotics trafficking conspiracy, and the Feeding Our Future fraud case. Joe successfully tried a number of federal jury trials, all resulting in guilty verdicts.
Prior to federal service, Joe was an Assistant Nicollet County Attorney, prosecuting adult felony cases. Joe began his legal career as an active-duty JAG lawyer in the U.S. Marine Corps, serving as a base assistant general counsel. In this role, Joe provided legal advice on regulation compliance, internal investigations, government ethics, and criminal law. Additionally, Joe served as a military prosecutor and deployed to Iraq as an operational law attorney, providing legal guidance on strikes in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. Joe earned his J.D. from Harvard Law School and his bachelor’s degree from Cornell University.
In his downtime, Joe enjoys reading Presidential biographies, cheering for the Twins and Timberwolves, exploring the Boundary Waters, and spending time with his family.
