Meagher & Geer partner Paula Weseman Theisen is quoted in an article in the publication Law360, Insurers Could Be Off Hook In Calif. ZIP Code Suits. More than 150 lawsuits have been filed in California over retailers’ collection of ZIP codes during credit card transactions since February, 2011. Said Theisen, “The unique thing about these ZIP code cases under the Song-Beverly [Credit Card Act] is that simply asking for and recording personal information is the only thing necessary to violate the statute, and you don’t have to necessarily do anything with that information.
