Paula Weseman Theisen is representing Abraham Lincoln High School in a lawsuit named as one of the “Lawsuits of the Year” by Minnesota Law & Politics. The suit was brought by thirteen former students, all immigrants from Somalia or Ethiopia, who allege that the school and the Minneapolis School District discriminated against them on the basis of national origin by not providing an adequate education for English language learners. The case has required the use of advanced legal technology due to the large number of documents involved and e-discovery. The outcome of the suit is pending. In addition to being a litigation partner at Meagher & Geer, Paula is the chair of the firm’s Electronic Litigation (“eLit”) Practice Group, which focuses on the use of advanced technology for case management, discovery and trial presentation. Among other things, the eLit Group provides expertise in the formation and use of electronic databases to manage complex litigation and the legal and technical requirements to preserve, retrieve, review and produce electronically-stored information, including e-mails.
