Joe Simmer is a trial lawyer specializing in the defense of medical malpractice claims brought against physicians, nurses, hospitals, clinics, and other healthcare providers. In addition to litigation defense, Joe provides legal representation to healthcare providers before their respective licensing boards. Joe has first-chair trial experience and prides himself on providing thoughtful, diligent legal counsel to his clients with straightforward advice.
In addition to his legal training, Joe holds bachelor degrees in biochemistry/molecular biology, chemistry, and criminology. He also worked for several years as an emergency medical technician in the Twin Cities metropolitan area. With a unique combination of practical skills and academic training connecting science, medicine, and the law, Joe understands and appreciates the complex medical-legal issues healthcare providers face every day.
Prior to joining Meagher + Geer in 2014, Joe worked in the Office of the Minnesota Attorney General, where he practiced civil litigation in numerous district courts across Minnesota. Joe has also practiced before the Minnesota Court of Appeals.
Outside the office, Joe enjoys recreational sports as well as spending time in the great outdoors with his wife and their two young children.
